SCPC Investigations & Ghost Tours

Old State Road &
Monkey Dog Bridge
June 2013
For this expedition, we wanted to checkout two of the most notorious local Urban Legends locations. The great thing about these types of locations is that every town has their own. These local legends and folklore are not found or acknowledged by major paranormal websites and literature. These are the stories you hear growing up over and over, that send chills down your spine and often give you nightmares. Most people immediately discredit these type of locations, however, I believe that there has to be some reason the legends existence. Old State Road is listed on the Shadowlands with only a story about a bus that was crash from the 1970's. I know of at least 5 different supposedly paranormal occurrences that are reported on this road. Yes, the most famous being the bus that got stuck on the train tracks and was hit by a train, killing all of the buses passengers (small children). Beyond that, locals speak of an old Indian Chief that was murdered on this former highway that once connected Columbia to Charleston. On the opposing end of the road, there is a bridge that is said to be haunted by a bride or woman. Some stories say it was a bride who got into a wreck and died in the creek below. The more commonly told story though, speaks of a woman whose baby died and you can hear it crying on the rocks below. If you like to dive deeper into the Paranormal realm. There is a church, that is said to have formally been a Satanic Church. The story goes on to say that there used to be graves on the church property and the Satanic Worshipers moved the graves of children to a different location and that graveyard is said to be an area with a strong paranormal presence. Cars are said to stall out if you go to the graveyard and the creepiest account I have heard was from a middle-aged woman. She claimed after the car stalled out, it wouldn't start for hours and that she could hear children playing and laughing along the edge of the woods that border the graveyard. I love Old State Road, it was what first got me intrigued with the paranormal. As for Monkey Dog Bridge, it is two streets over from my high school and is the prototypical story that if you put your car in neutral it will turn off. I have heard versions of that story about countless locations, but with it being so close to where we live I decided why not check it out?
